Micro-analysis of a mineralogical approach using microscopy, which determines the nature of dust particles found in the atmosphere.

The project’s aim is to determine the contribution of the different emission sources, distinguish natural sources from anthropic sources, differentiate between natural, primary, and secondary particles and quantify the different particle families.

The methods used are X-ray diffraction, electronic scanning microscope using an X-energy dispersion spectrometer (SEM/EDX). In certain cases, TEM (transmission electron microscopy) is also required. Several sites where high levels of dust have been measured by the network stations have been studied and the origin of the sources of pollution identified.
