Environment and health

The quality of the environment has an impact on our health and well-being. Although the ISSeP has monitored the quality of environments for several years, the study of health risks linked to chemical pollutants and physical nuisances in living environments performed by the environment and health department is more recent. The ISSeP provides the environmental administration with methodological support to assess the risks of soils potentially contaminated and in impact studies. It contributes to the development of a geographic health environment information system intended to identify environmental and health areas of concern. It looks at the issue of pesticides through a multidisciplinary research project aiming to assess the Walloon population’s exposure to environmental pesticides. Finally, the ISSeP is also involved in European projects assessing the health impacts related to the significant problem of atmospheric pollution.
